What do we know about the poetry competition from the text? A. It is held every two months. B. It awards all winners cash prizes. C. It is open to worldwide competitors. D. It offers competitors poem lectures. 12. Which requirement should each poem meet? A. It should be written independently. B. It should contain at least 40 words. C. A. £12.75 B. £9.25 C. £7 D. £3.5 B I have read with interest the opinion of one woman who attended a high school basketball game at Three Oaks and came away thinking the students were disrespectful (不尊敬). I have a very different point of view. Respect does not equal quiet, although a certain generation of people would disagree. Respect is a deep admiration (赞赏) for someone or something because of their abilities or achievements and a regard for the wishes and traditions of others. In my opinion, the students at Three Oaks High School were the very picture of respect. They brought their team and school spirit to show their admiration for their basketball team. This is something that is desperately (极度地) lacking in many schools — SPIRIT. I am so happy to say it is alive at Three Oaks. They cheered and made noise in a gymnasium, they jumped up and down when their team scored, they groaned (叹息) when they made mistakes, but kept the team’s spirits up by cheering, even when it was evident they were going to lose. They kept the tradition of cheering and respect by showing due regard to a parent who came over and spoke to them about jumping too far onto the court. They listened and followed his instructions. He also happened to be the coach of another team whose fans were doing nothing. These kids were doing what they were supposed to do, in a place they were supposed to do it. It was not a library, or a mall; it was a sports match. I would ask the lady who wrote the letter to the editor if she has been to any professional sporting events. I remember watching a Super Bowl a few years ago and the quarterback(四分卫) could hardly make his calls heard to the guy standing right in front of him. You know what he said about it later, that it was amazing to have the fans cheering so loud. I wish both these teams the best of luck. It was an amazing game. Even though we lost, we left with our spirits high, ready for the next time our teams meet. It is going to be another great game of basketball. 佛山一中2021-2022 学年上学期高一级第一次段考试题 英语 共10 页 第 4 页 14.Why did the woman think the students were disrespectful? A. They made a lot of noise. B. C Grandma Pugh sized up the baby like a pig at the farmers’ market. There was a pause and then she pronounced. “He’s got nice long legs.” She clapped her hands once in approval (赞许). But then she frowned and leaned forward. Everyone waited anxiously. The baby had opened his eyes and was staring up. “But those cross eyes won’t do,” she declared firmly, shaking her head in disappointment. That had been Freddie Pilcher’s first meeting with Grandma Pugh. Since then, ten years had passed. Much to his grandmother’s satisfaction, she’d been proven right about the boy’s legs. He was a regular beanpole. Grandma Pugh had also been correct about his eyes. Freddie had been wearing glasses to correct his vision since he was two years old. His current pair was thick, and cheap-looking, but at least he could see. Freddie not only had poor eyesight, but he was also clumsy. He wasn’t good at schoolwork either. But there was one thing that the boy was good at and it was all on account of the length of his legs. He could jump. Freddie was the best jumper in school. Not only could he leap the furthest but also the highest. At breaktimes, he entertained the little ones by leaping over the school wall into Mrs Hobson’s garden and then rapidly jumping back. She had been up to see the head teacher several times because somebody had been crushing (压伤) her vegetables. It was badgers ( 獾), Freddie suggested, when questioned by Miss Harpy — definitely badgers; no doubt about it. His dad had terrible problems with badgers. Only last week he had lost two rows of carrots. Freddie had woken one night and heard them tearing through the garden, a whole herd of them. They rooted up the lawn and dug up the vegetables. Terrible things, badgers. All the oth
