Its key points of interest and natural sights are shockingly beautiful and able to tug at one's heart. The Pearl of the Silk Road, Dunhuang, opens her arms to welcome tourists from all over the world. Mogao Caves Located 25 kilometers southeast of Dunhuang, Mogao Caves is regarded as the best Buddhist spot in China, perhaps in the whole world. The artistic features of the treasured Buddhist murals(壁画), represent perfectly the artistic style of the Northern Wei (386-543) Sui(581-618)and Tang(618-907)dynasties. Yumenguan Pass Situated 90 kilometers northwest of the city, the Yumen Pass was an important gateway to the western region in ancient times. Yumen Pass, Hecang Town and Han Great Wall (Han Dynasty)are the major sights in this area. Since the Yumen Pass is a distance from Dunhuang, one can have a feel of the desolation(荒凉)of western China. Crescent(新月)Lake Five kilometers southwest of the city, the Crescent Lake lies in the arms of Echoing-Sand Mountain, appearing clear and beautiful. The lake is crescent-shaped, hence the name. It's surrounded by quicksand. Although it's quite windy sometimes, the lake has never been covered by the sand. It's really a marvelous scene in the desert. Echoing-Sand Mountain Five kilometers south of the city, Echoing-Sand Mountain is the accumulation of years of sand in the size of rice. Each time the wind blows, there is a sound from the mountain and when there is a breeze, the sound is like musical instruments, hence the name. The most marvelous experience is when after climbing to the top, although quite tough, one can slide down to the foot of the mountain, a wonderfully amusing experience! 21. B I remember the day when Dad first brought home the heavy accordion (手风琴). He gathered my mother and me in the living room and opened the case as if it were a treasure. My thin smile didn't match his broad grin, because I had wished for a guitar or a piano. Shortlyafter my lessons began, I was ordered to practice half an hour every day. Gradully, I was able to string notes together and play simple songs. Someday, I found a case at home. Opening it, I saw a beautiful violin. "It's your father's, "Mom said. "His parents bought it for him. I guess he got too busy on the farm to ever learn to play it. "I tried to imagine Dad's rough hands on this delicate instrument—— and couldn't. With the fall school concert nearing, I would have to play a solo(独奏)on a local movie theater's stage. I wanted to skip the whole thing. Emotions boiled over in the car one Sunday afternoon. "I don't want to play a solo, " I said. "You have to, "replied my father. "Why?"I shouted. "Because you didn't get to play your violin when you were a kid? Why should I have to play this stupid instrument when you never had to play yours?"Dad pulled the car over. "Because you can bring people joy. "He added softly, "Someday you'll have chance I never had: you'll play beautiful music for your family. "" I was speechless. I had rarely heard Dad speak with such feeling about anything, much less the accordion. The evening of the concert, I walked onto the stage and performed without a mistake. Dad slipped an arm around me and held me close. "You were just great, "he said. Then he shook my hand and was slow to let it go. Dad never learned to produce sweet sounds from his violin. Yet he was wrong to think he would never for his family. Every time my husband and children laughed and danced, hearing my accordion, I know it was my father's music. 24. How did the author feel at the first sight of her accordion? A. Unhappy. B. Anxious. C. Content. D. Excited. 25. Why did the author mention her father's not playing the violin in his childhood? A. To prove a theory. B. To find an excuse. C. To give an example. D. To make a comparison. 26. Why did the father insist the author play the accordion? A. She could perform on stage. B. She could realize her father's dream. C. She would enjoy the pleasure music brings. D. She would have a chance to play music for her family. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. My father's music. B. My music lessons. C. My first solo performance. D. My journey to an accordionist. C Have you ever wondered why elephants get so big? Thanks to their enormous size, they have been able to survive for thousands of years in all kinds of circumstances. Their size has allowed them to reach high food sources, knock down trees instantly and find water underground. Not only does their size benefit them but also their ecosystem. Elephants use their size to create holes in the ground to find water. Durin
