I am writing to invite you to attend an English evening party held by our school's English Club. The party will start at 6:30 p.m. this Friday evening in our School Hall. At the party there will be a variety of wonderful activities that you can't miss. Not only will you be able to appreciate brilliant singing and dancing performances, but also you may participate in some interesting English games in person. In addition, this is also a good chance for you to know some new Chinese friends and talk about Chinese culture with them. I bet you will have great fun here! Looking forward to your reply. Yours, LiHua Paragraph 1 With worry and uncertainty, I entered her office. Ms.Robbins told me that I had failed the math test ,and, what was worse, that I had to spend another year in middle school if I wanted to be admitted to a high school. Hardly had I heard the news when I was reduced to tears.Seeing that,Ms.Robbins came to comfort and encourage me, "I'm glad to do what I can to help you." After leaving her office, wandering in the rain, I was wondering how to tell the bad news to my parents, anxious and nervous. Paragraph 2 After I took the courage to tell my parents the bad news, they were silent. Trembling with fright, I waited for their blame. However, they encouraged me to have another try in ninth grade. It was then that I determined to take math seriously. The following day, I turned to Ms Robbins for help and told her about my determination. Ms. Robbins was happy that I finally decided to work hard on math. Thanks to her patient guidance and my devotion, I made great progress and was relieved of the fear of math. Finally, I made it to a good high school and a university. Now I'm a doctor and I' m grateful to Ms. Robbins. 听力材料 Text 1 M: Shall we go to see a film tonight? W: I’d like to, but I think it is more worthwhile learning practical skills from my father at home. Text 2 M: Well now, before we order, let’s agree first that we each pay our own bill. W: OK, I agree. M: And what do you say, Betty and Steven? Text 3 W: I’ve come to this Chinese restaurant many times. I like sweet-and-sour fish, fried noodles… And the mushroom soup here is delicious. M: You’re really a big fan of Chinese food. Well, you do the ordering. Text 4 W: I’ve read the comment on this movie. I must say that I completely disagree with the writer’s dislike of the work. M: I read it, too. And I am in favor of his opinion. Text 5 M: Did you stay with your parents at the weekend? W: No, I did some walking up in Scotland. M: Did you go by yourself? W: No, I was going to go with my cousin Dave, but I went with my classmate Debbie instead. Text 6 M: I bought a pumpkin, and I am planning to make it into a lantern tomorrow. W: Oh, that’s right. Halloween is coming! M: Yeah, the school is letting us use the gym for the Halloween party. I am so excited about it, but I have not decided what to wear this year. What about you? You looked so great in that Cat Woman costume last year. W: Me? I’m still not sure. Last year’s party was great, but I will be at home with my family this year. Text 7 W: Hello, is that John speaking? M: Hello, John speaking. W: I heard you had a job interview yesterday. How was it? M: Hundreds of applicants turned up. The situation was busy and exciting. W: What’s the result? I’m eager to hear it. M: I beat all of them. I got the job. I will begin my job next month. W: Cool! Congratulations on your success! M: Thank you. You always support me. W: Shall we have a drink outside? M: OK, that’s a good idea. Text 8 M: Excuse me, what time is Flight 962 arriving? W: It was to arrive at 10:35. But it has been delayed one hour. M: Delayed? My wife is on that flight. What’s the matter? Engine trouble? W: It’s nothing like that, sir. The plane was delayed in Chicago because of bad weather. But now it has cleared up and they are already on their way here to San Francisco. M: Did you say Chicago? My wife is flying home from Boston. W: Flight 962 takes off in Boston but makes a scheduled stop in Chicago. M: Oh, I see. Sorry to get so anxious. W: Relax, sir. Your wife will be here safe and sound in an hour. Text 9 W: Dad, can I have a car? M: Sweetheart, we talked about this. Owning a car is a big responsibility. Gas is pretty expensive nowadays. You also have to maintain your car properly, and that means… W: Yeah, I know, Dad! You’ve told me a thousand times! But how am I supposed to be independent if you always drive me to places? M: Well, I feel more comfortable knowing that you’re safe. W: Do you know how embarrassing it is to have your father drop you off at the mall? All my friends have cars of their own already! M: Don’t all of your friends have jobs of their own, too? W: Well, yeah, I guess, but… M: And haven’t your friends kept their grades up all through university? W: Uh…yeah. M: Well, you show me a report card of straight A’s and two paychecks from a new job, and then we’ll talk about a car for you. W: What? That’s so unfair! M: Life isn’t fair sometimes. But you’ll appreciate your future car if you earn it. Why don’t we look through some car magazines so you can see what you are working toward? Text 10 M: Last summer I went to Miami Beach, Florida, where I stayed for two weeks. My friend John and I flew to Miami from New York in three hours. It was the first time for both of us to travel by air. We sat near the window of the plane and enjoyed an unusual and beautiful view of the world. We went there because the cost was lower. We stayed at a hotel on the beach. We slept late every morning and then had breakfast outdoors near the pool. When the weather was not too hot, we went sightseeing in the morning. In the afternoon, we would go swimming in the ocean, lie in the sun, or go water-skiing. After dinner in the evening, we usually went dancing or enjoyed ourselves in the nightclubs. The two weeks went by too quickly. We were both very sorry when we had to leave.
